Is this political cartoon featuring Donald Rumsfeld dressed as a Doctor, telling a badly wounded Iraqi vet that he has been "battle hardened" offensive to soldiers; or is it just trying to point out that Rumsfeld, who orchestrated so much of the ineptitude and bloodshed that we see in Iraq, views soldiers as disposable pawns in a geo-political game of chess?
I suspect that the answer is the latter, but for some reason the Joint Chiefs of Staff have decided to chuck honesty out the window and misrepresent the cartoonist's intention. Not that we should be surprised. Considering the blood on their hands I'd be in denial too. But then again, this administration seems to rejoice in blood, death and suffering.

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.
-John Stuart Mills
For some reason kyle has decided to chuck honesty, and might i say any facts, right out the window and misrepresent himself, and of course the joint chiefs.
"When Facism comes to America it will come wrapped in an American Flag."
Senator Huey Long
The below quote comes from an email that I received from a close friend yesterday. It seems appropriate under the following circumstances.
"[We are at the]stage where it is overdue to shout the truth at these [right wing] troglodytes. If they are too stupid, or uncaring, or selfishly greedy; it makes no difference. They support a fascist dictator, a criminal organisation, that steals from us all: totalitarian torturers, murderers, and thieves.
I look straight at them and say in a forceful, but dignified way, "TRAITOR!" They are such cowards that they do not even respond.
We [on the left] are the patriots. [Those on the right] are the sellouts and the wimps. They already know that they are guilty. [And so do increasing numbers of the American people.] We just have to shine the light of truth and the mirror of hypocrisy on the unthinking to shame them into enlightenment, or embarrassment and inaction."
Poor anon, i guess you grew up with that friend. i have friends like that too, you know they're idiots, but you've known them for so long that you keep hanging with them anyway. Well you're a good guy to put up with this friend. i don't envy you though. good luck
Actually, my friend moved to California awhile back, although I do wish we lived a little closer these days. Under either circumstance I would still be luckier than you are Rhino, you have to live with yourself.
luckier than me anon? obviously you've never challenged me in yatzee........ lets just say that would be a sad day for you my friend. YATZEE
I would suspect the cartoon to be a comment on the use of spin in the news and in the administration, no matter how bad it gets they always seem to come out with a more favourable outlook with no public acknowledgement of the never ending quagmire.
i like reading this blog, because it makes me feel smart. thanks guys
You perhaps need to explore more appropriate sources of self validation then, rhino. But so nice to see you always supporting the liberals. Time well spent, no?
I think the JCOS don't want people to know, just like the Bush administration, that soldier's are being maimed for life in Iraq.
Does one need to be able to spell yahtzee to play yahtzee, Rhino? Isn't it a word game? This challenge seems like a bit of a shoe-in....
I ain't spell real good. But lucky for me, it's a dice game. Like craps, which i must say i am also very good at. In fact i had a very good time at the tables in Windsor Ontario a couple of weeks ago. I love the dice!
Great! Then we can expect wonderful things from you, rhinoculous! A skilled craps player! I've just raised the bar regarding my hopes for civil dialogue.
